The Path of Least Resistance
Updated: Nov 7, 2020
I never really thought of myself of a person who was stubborn or “fixed” in their ways. I thought that I was a companion to change and for the most part, pretty open minded.
However, the more that I live, the more reflections of my self I see in the world around me, the more I realize how resistant to the flow outside of my own mind I can be.
So let’s revise the earlier though:
I now realize I have a tendency to be open to change only when it is on my terms.
(I’m laughing)
That sentence is a contradiction in itself. How can we truly be open to change if we only allow ourselves to change on our own accord? Change is the only constant, change is flow, flow is literal existence manifesting and repurposing itself over and over again.
When we allow ourselves to change by only our own decree, we get into alignment of the structure of the Self and out of alignment with the flow of the soul.
An experience of an unexpected conversation led to the sudden grounding of my extremely idealistic ideas, and an involuntary changing of thought processes.
It forced me to question the realms in which I really saw myself.
I was forced to look outside of the fixed perspective I had, and see that an opposing idea actually was not so contrasting at all, but complementary.
I felt change seeping in, and it wasn’t on my terms. It was out of my control, and while my Self was not okay with it, my soul was. The perspective that was being explained to me was resonant on a level deeper than the mind or the personality.
It was a perspective that incorporated both my thoughts and the other persons, working together to support one another & coexisting at the same it.
And it bothered the hell out of me.
How could someone exhibit the type of power over me that against my will, forced me to see outside of the limited scope I was viewing the situation out of initially?
What type of juju was this? All I knew is that I wasn’t anywhere near a fan of it.
But maybe that’s just it. Maybe that was the issue. As human beings we come to this earth with the luxury of the ego. The gift is it helps us to individualize and experience uniqueness that we can’t experience purely through the soul. The downside to this is that if un-nurtured the ego develops a shadow. Due to the unconsciousness of the awareness of the ego, the ego’s shadow then manifests in unhealthy ways like power dynamics, dualistic thinking, basically any fear based method of control or thought.
During my annoyingly alchemizing encounter (lol), I was unconsciously operating out of the mind of my ego. I was thinking in terms of ‘having power over’ instead of seeing through a lens of expansion or broadening my perceptive. I felt like what I knew to be true was in danger of being compromised, especially because it was not on my own accord. It felt like an intrusion.
When we are met with sudden change and our hearts are not open, our egos will take over in place in order to “keep us safe.” However in most cases, the “dangers” we are facing are just fears of past situations resurfacing.
In my case, it was the fear of abandoning my self and my beliefs for someone else.
The fear of losing my self.

The conversation ended, however my anger, fear, and disbelief on what had just happened did not. And so the control drama began with the classic yelling, the pushing away, the crying, the anger… and then—the surrender.
Once I was able to release the control drama, take myself out the seat of the ego, surrender my attachment to my beliefs/ideas, and sit into the seat of the soul, I was then able to become she who observes instead she who gets absorbed.
I was able to ask myself, what was really happening. Why was I really angry? What was this feeling trying to teach me?
It was only when I made the unconsciousness of the presence of the ego conscious, that I was then able to heal.
Having to put aside your ego and surrender to the awareness of soul can be challenging. Observing the triggering emotion from a lens of non-attachment can be disillusioning. Embracing the unnerving truth, and choosing to be grateful for the lessons instead of bitter of the situation can be liberating. Every sight of adversity is just an opportunity to delve deeper into the essence of Who We Really Are.
The choice is always ours. We just have to take ourselves out of our minds, and center ourselves back into our hearts.
Our triggers, are dissolvers.
Dissolvers of the self that propel us closer towards the evolution of our soul.
In that moment of internal dissonance I chose to surrender.
I chose the path of least resistance.
I chose to center my Being and ground my Self back into the vibration of Love.
